Welcome to Bainbridge College Nursing Division

Introduction

Welcome to the Bainbridge College Nursing Division website! We offer a five semester program leading to an Associate in Science in Nursing degree. A new class is accepted annually for each Fall semester. The program has conditional approval status granted by the Georgia Board of Nursing. The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission has awarded the program initial and full approval. Successful graduates will be academically eligible to take the National Council of Licensing Exam for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and practice as a RN. In addition, graduates are eligible to pursue their nursing career in a BSN or ASN-MSN program.

Test of Essential Academic Skills Test (TEAS)

About the test:

The Test for Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) measures the following:

Math

• Whole numbers, metric conversion, fractions and decimals, algebraic equations, percentages, and ratio/proportion.

Reading

• Covers paragraph comprehension, passage comprehension, and inferences/conclusions.

English

• Measures knowledge of punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, contextual words, and spelling.

Science

• covers science reasoning, science knowledge, biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, basic physical principles, and general science

The T.E.A.S. test is required for admission into Bainbridge College Associate Degree in Nursing Program.  The exam must be completed prior to turning in your application to the ADN program.

Exam Dates, Times, and Locations:

Please contact the Testing Center at 248-2579 to schedule an appointment to take the TEAS exam. Photo ID must be presented prior to taking the exam

COST:

• The applicant is responsible for the testing fee of twenty five dollars which must be paid the day of the exam. The testing fee is non refundable. 

Preparing for the Exam:

A study guide is on reserve in the Bainbridge College library. 

• Study guides or practice tests may be purchased from the Assessment Technologies Institute at www.atitesting.com

TEST RESULTS

Test results will be given to the student at the completion of the test and placed in Banner Web. The national percentile is the number used as a measurement of academic success.

The TEAS Test may be repeated only one time, with the best composite score used for the selective admission formula.  The applicant must wait a month before retaking the exam but must complete prior to the nursing program application due date.

REMEDIATION is strongly recommended for success on the RETAKE

TEAS scores are acceptable for a two year period..

Frequently Asked Questions.

1. Where can I find information about the nursing program at Bainbridge College?
   You can find out information about the nursing program at the following web site: http://www.bainbridge.edu/academics/Nursing/
   It includes the following information: description of the program, admission requirements, expense list, course list (nursing specific courses and general education courses).
2. Will I be licensed to practice upon completing the nursing program at Bainbridge College?
   You will be eligible to apply to take the NCLEX-RN exam upon successful completion of the program. After passing the exam, you will be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Georgia pursuant to approval by the Georgia Board of Nursing.
3. Where can I take the core courses prior to entering the program?
   You can take core courses at Bainbridge College or transfer equivalent courses into Bainbridge College for credit.
4. Can Nursing Courses be transferred into the program?
   We do not accept transfer of any nursing courses at this time.
5. In general, how many students are accepted each year for admission into the ADN nursing class?
   We can accommodate, in terms of our lab and clinical facilities, approximately 50 students per incoming class.
6. How long is the Program?
   The Nursing Program is 5 semesters long.
7. Can I take the program as a part-time student?
   Not at this time. The program is offered only on a full-time basis. If you have work or family responsibilities that will make it difficult for you to be a full time student; you might investigate options for reducing the course load, such as taking the general education courses the year before entry into the Nursing Program.
8. Will my schedule allow me to work at a job part-time and be a full time student in the program?
   You will find that your program schedule and study time will be demanding of your time and effort; therefore, it will be difficult to work unless you have a flexible part time work schedule and are very organized.
9. Will a criminal conviction affect my application for nursing school or after I am in the program?
   In general, a criminal conviction involving violence or illegal drug activity will result in the inability for an individual to attend clinical, thereby making the student ineligible to successfully complete the nursing program. In addition, the Georgia Board of Nursing has the sole authority to approve an individual to sit for the NCLEX-RN. For further information, refer to http://www.sos.state.ga.us/plb/rn/.
10. What clinical sites are used in the nursing programs?
    TThe Bainbridge ADN program uses various health care facilities for clinical experiences to provide students with opportunities to learn about different health care systems and provide assorted opportunities to provide care for different client populations. Ability to provide your own transportation to clinical sites outside of Bainbridge and Decatur County is a requirement of the program.

Student Nurse Association

Georgia Association of Nursing Students (GANS) is a student-run organization focused on the development of nursing education and the profession of nursing. The focus of GANS is to support and mentor students as they work towards their ADN degrees and to promote professional involvement in nursing, and to encourage community service. Students are strongly encouraged to become active members in this organization.

Student Organizations

The Bainbridge Association of Nursing Students (BANS) is an affiliate of the Georgia Association of Nursing Students (GANS) and the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA). Membership is open to pre nursing and nursing students.

The BANS organization provides opportunities for students to develop leadership skills, team building abilities, and community service involvement. Furthermore, this organization encourages participation at the state and national level which provides access to conferences, facilitates networking, and other educational activities.
