Distance Learning

Bainbridge College and the University System of Georgia are committed to increasing access to higher education for the citizens of Southwest Georgia and beyond through distance education and partnerships with other institutions. Distance learning courses offered by Bainbridge College for credit are listed in the Schedule of Classes. The printed version has a section highlighting courses taught online. Non-credit courses are listed in the Continuing Education Schedule.

Online courses give students the freedom to learn anytime and anywhere! Bainbridge College has been using the Internet to enhance courses since it was first available on campus. Our first online courses were offered in 2000, and we now offer online courses in a wide range of disciplines.

Online courses at Bainbridge College are dynamic online learning environments with course content linked to the resources of the Internet. Many courses use discussion forums, live chat, electronic mail, online testing, and multimedia. Students have access to an interactive class calendar, online syllabus, information about their grades and progress within the course. Successful online students are organized and self-motivated. The Student Online Readiness Tool (SORT) can help you determine whether online coursework is appropriate for you.

Bainbridge College's online courses require a computer and Internet connection. To access online course materials you must be registered in that course. Most instructors will hold an orientation session on campus or mail you information about accessing the course for the first time. Students participating in online classes may use the college's on-campus computer labs during regular hours. In addition, some libraries and community centers have public access computers that may be suitable for online courses.

There are four online course systems in use at Bainbridge College. Select the appropriate system for information about preparing your computer, accessing courses, and technical support. If you are not sure which system is used for your course, please contact your instructor.

  • GeorgiaVIEW -- GeorgiaVIEW is used for online and web-enhanced courses in Arts and Sciences, Learning Support, and Technical Studies (formerly known as WebCT Vista).
  • Blackboard -- Blackboard is used for some online and web-enhanced courses offered by Technical Studies.
  • Ed2Go -- Ed2Go is used for online continuing education courses.
  • CompuTaught -- CompuTaught is used for online continuing education courses in real estate.

Bainbridge College also receives credit and non-credit courses from other institutions through our videoconferencing system in Maple Center 1203. This system provides a live two-way audio and video connection between students and instructors in different locations. Bainbridge College has used videoconferencing since 1992, helping hundreds of students in Southwest Georgia to complete upper-level courses in business, marketing, education, counseling, and accounting. The videoconferencing system can also be used by the college to bring guest speakers into classes, conduct meetings at a distance, and for employee training. For information about videoconference scheduling, contact David Pollock at (229) 248-3903 or send email to him.

Under the Technology, Education and Copyright Harmonization (TEACH) Act of 2002, the materials contained within distance learning course websites or transmitted over GSAMS are only for the use of students enrolled in the course for purposes associated with this course and may not be retained or further disseminated. For additional information about copyright, please visit the Regents Guide to Understanding Copyright and Educational Fair Use website.

Usernames for GeorgiaVIEW are the first part of a student's college e-mail address (before the @ symbol). Passwords are the student's Banner PIN.  Students can look up their e-mail address in Banner.  Students who have forgotten their PIN number must visit the Admissions and Records office in person with a photo ID.

GeorgiaVIEW has a browser checker, which will test and see if the computer is properly configured to log in. Users should run the browser checker anytime they use Vista with a new computer. Common login problems include not having Java installed, popup blocking software, and spyware (learn more).

Finding help in GeorgiaVIEW is as easy as clicking the Help link at the top of the screen. Technical support is available to GeorgiaVIEW users 24 hours a day through the GeorgiaVIEW Online Support Center. Most questions can be answered through the searchable knowledgebase. If the answer isn't in the knowledgebase, users can contact a technician through online chat or a toll-free number. Bainbridge College Technical Services is also available to provide assistance. Distance Learning Partnerships

Through partnerships with other educational institutions, local residents may take technical and transfer courses online and upper-level bachelors and masters level college courses on the Bainbridge College campus. These programs use online instruction, two-way videoconferencing, and classes taught on the Bainbridge College campus. Admissions, registration, and financial aid for these classes are handled by the institution offering them, not Bainbridge College. To learn more about these programs, please contact the coordinators listed below.

The Continuing Education Division at Bainbridge College occasionally offers non-credit courses from other institutions online or over videoconferencing.  Registration for these courses is through Continuing Education at (229) 248-2516. The Continuing Education schedule lists the times, dates and other details of these courses.
