USG Board of Regents mandates that students in the following categories be covered by health insurance
- International Students holding F or J visas
- Students enrolled in the ADN program
Students who fall into one of these categories and are not covered by an approved policy or whose policy does not meet the minimum standards must purchase the USG Student Health Insurance from UnitedHealthCare. Since the coverage is mandatory, all students in these categories are charged the premium (see chart below) at the beginning of the semester and a file containing the students’ information is submitted to UHCS. After the information is processed by UHCS, a waiver period is opened (see chart below) allowing students who are already covered by an insurance policy through parent plans, family plans or employer-sponsored plans to opt out of the Student Health Insurance Plan. Students wishing to opt out must complete the Waiver Form located on the UCHSR website. At the close of the waiver period, UCHS will notify BSC of all approved waivers and all charges will be removed from the approved students’ accounts. Students listed in the above categories who fail to submit creditable health insurance information will automatically be enrolled in and billed for the system-wide student health insurance plan. After the waiver period is closed, UCHS will not accept waivers; no exceptions will be made by UCHS.
Insurance is available for students not in the mandatory categories. Students wishing to apply for the voluntary insurance plan must contact UCHS for information.
