Daryl Parks, a Tallahassee, Fla., attorney who was one of the lawyers for Trayvon Martin’s family, was a recent guest of the Bainbridge State College Honors Program. Studying a theme of race and racism for the academic year, the Bainbridge State Honors Program consists of 17 talented students who engaged Parks in a frank and honest discussion about the teenager’s death in Sanford, Fla., in February 2012. Poet Gehrke will visit BSC Thursday, Nov. 14

American poet Steve Gehrke will be the first of three Georgia Poetry Circuit speakers scheduled to visit Bainbridge State College as part of its inaugural Arts and Lecture Series. Peggy Salter, Bainbridge State College’s administrative assistant in the College’s Office of Institutional Advancement, earned the use of a 2014 Chevrolet Impala for a month thanks to a partnership with the College and Action GM. Bainbridge State College will begin in January offering its renowned Emergency Medical Technician program at the College’s Early County Center in Blakely.
