TUTOR RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION
RECRUITMENT:
Students may announce their intention to become tutors for the Academic Resource enter in one of the following ways:
- Professor nomination
- Tutor Nomination
- Self-referral
Regardless of the manner in which a Student applies for a position as an Academic Resource Center tutor the selection process is the same:
- Applications must be complete with all documents enclosed: including an unofficial transcript (either High School or College)and a copy of a current driver's license and Social Security card
- A recommendation from a Professor for the subject to be tutored must be submitted
- Employment Application must be signed
- Interview with the director must be completed
SELECTION:
QUALIFICATIONS: The ARC is interested in Students who:
- Know their subject matter well and are willing to learn more about it
- Maintain a 3.00 or above GPA
- Are Full or Part Time Students
- Relate well with different personalities and cultures
- Have good listening and problem-solving skills
- Use good communication skills
- Practice academic professionalism
- Possess patience

TUTOR TRAINING:
- Beginning of the semester workshop 5 hours
- Periodic workshops during the semester: 6- 1 hour workshops
- Academic Success: Study Skills, Note & Test Taking Skills

- Academic Etiquette
- Seven Principles of Academic Success
- 9 Required DVD Workshops: 2 hours & 15 minutes
- 6 Additional Video Workshops: 1 hour
EMPLOYMENT:
- Tutor contracts are for one semester at a time.
- Contracts are renewed only upon completion of on-going tutor training, tutor evaluations, and tutor meetings with the Directors.
- All tutors are paid at the same hourly rate of $8.00 and may work a maximum of 19 hours per week.
Tutors may work up to 2 years, or 6 terms. A tutor may be retained longer than the 6 terms at the discretion of the Director. |
