BSC’s 2nd Annual Charity Fun Day

Winning Tug-o-War teamTug-o-war teamBainbridge State College’s Early County Campus in Blakely was the site of some fun and games on Saturday, April 12.

The charity that will benefit from the day is the Early County Helping Hands, which assists persons in the county who are struggling with some type of catastrophe, said Joann Simpson, dean of the Early County Campus. “This year, we thought it would be good to keep it more local.”

The event was held on the Blakely campus, including the running of a 5-K and fun run. Bainbridge State faculty and staff members, and some of the students hosted many of the games. Nursing students set up a dunking booth, and the Magnolia Lodge No. 86 completed child identification CDs as part of the Georgia Child Protection Program.

The Blakely Fire Department beat the Early County Sheriff’s Office in the double-elimination Tug-O-War challenge. The Bainbridge State staff team and the student team fell to the Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters.

Noah Johnson of Blakely was the overall winner of the 5K. Brandon Womble was second and Will Winkler was third. Isaac Rogers, a tutor at the Blakely campus, helped coordinate the 5K and fun run, and he is with the male overall winner, Noah Johnson, 16, of Blakely, who completed the course in 22 minutes and 50 seconds; Kate Willis, 31, of Colquitt, was the overall female winner with a time of 32 minutes and 19 seconds; the winner of the fun run, Caleb Causey, 8, of Blakely; and Dean Simpson.
