National Report Ranks Bainbridge College #8 for Lowest Net Price

(Bainbridge, Ga.) Bainbridge College (BC) ranks number eight in the nation for lowest net price of public, two-year colleges, according to an update this week by the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE). BC is one of only two Georgia institutions of higher education named to the Department of Education’s Top 100 List of like institutions.

The Department’s College Affordability and Transparency Center highlights U.S. institutions with the lowest and highest tuition and net price. BC’s positive national standing attests to the hard work that college leadership and the BC community has done to reduce spending in order to keep tuition as low as possible.
BC’s annual average net price of $483 falls well below the national average for public, two-year colleges that was reported as $6,485. Net price is the average price of attendance that is paid by full-time, first-time students after grants and scholarships are taken into account.

“This is definitely positive proof that we are living up to one of our defining characteristics – affordability,” said BC President Richard Carvajal. “I am thankful for all that our faculty and staff do to provide BC students with wonderful opportunities to better themselves and their families.”

The rankings aim to assist families with the often tough job of comparing colleges. “We want to arm students and parents with the information they need to make smart educational choices,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. “Students need to know up front how much college will actually cost them instead of waiting to find out when the first student loan bill arrives. These lists are a major step forward in unraveling the mystery of higher education pricing.”

The USDOE grouped colleges in the following categories: 4-year public; 4-year private nonprofit; 4-year private for-profit; 2-year public; 2-year private nonprofit; 2-year private for-profit; Less-than-2-year public; Less-than-2-year private nonprofit; and Less than-2-year private for-profit.

According to the report, Institutions report data on their tuition and fees and net price annually through the Department’s Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS). Additional updated data on individual schools is available on the Department’s College Navigator site. To view the complete list, visit: http://collegecost.ed.gov/catc/Default.aspx
