BSC students in the Cosmetology Program are not only given the opportunity to work in real life situations in a salon but also develop their passion for cosmetology and the artistic value associated with it.

The Cosmetology Program at Bainbridge State College gives students opportunities to create work of arts in hair styling with hands-on experience.

The Program gives students the opportunity to learn the technical aspects of hair color, styling, facials, manicures, and pedicures while allowing the students experience with real clients.

Several of the students who will be graduating next May explained how the program is shaping them into professional cosmetologists.

Crystal Craver of Bainbridge is a non-traditional student who was encouraged to enroll in the program—and she is now glad she did.

“Cosmetology has always been something I’ve been very interested in,” she said. “I waited until my child has gotten through college and that’s when I decided to go back to college and get a degree.”

Craver said the best part about cosmetology is that it is not the same thing every day.

“There’s something new every day—and never a dull moment. Being able to interact with the public in this program is great. We are able to see a variety of clients and give them a variety of great options,” she said.

Kendall Carpenter of Blakey said that she, too, had always been interested in cosmetology—and said seeing people “transform” is her favorite part of the cosmetology program experience.

She said, “It’s all about seeing those end results and making someone feel pretty. We have been very fortunate to have our instructor, Ms. Julie Shores, teach us how to do this.”

Carpenter also commented about the quality of products and professionalism the BSC Cosmetology Program provides its clients.

“We have so many options for our clients. It’s a real salon with high-quality products—and we are proud to be able to offer this to our community while gaining experience as professional cosmetologists,” she said.

Terri Lynn Anvar of Bainbridge reiterated the importance of the hands-on experience and having an experienced professional instructor.

She commented, “We get to know our clients just as we would in a salon outside of the College. By having that experience, along with a professional cosmetology instructor, it has given me the confidence to be a professional cosmetologist.”

BSC Cosmetology has developed a reputation as a great environment for all cosmetology needs.

BSC Cosmetology client Ali White said the environment is always friendly and welcoming—and it is a great way to support BSC students working towards their degrees.

“Every time I go to the salon, it’s so welcoming. Everyone is very professional,” she said. “And by going to the salon, I know I’m supporting the BSC students and that makes it an even better experience.”

Molly Day is also a client. She also commented on the importance of giving students the opportunity to gain real salon experience.

“By using BSC for my cosmetology needs, I’m giving our students the opportunity to gain experience while learning valuable interpersonal skills which will be vital to them obtaining a job in a more demanding workforce,” said Day.

The BSC Cosmetology Salon, located inside the Shotwell Education Center at 315 South Boulevard Dr., will be accepting clients from now until Dec. 6, on Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
