BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (WCTV) — A partnership between two Georgia institutions will offer a range of bachelor’s degrees.
Under a new articulation agreement, once students at Bainbridge State College receive their two-year associate’s degree, they’ll have a straight pathway into a bachelor’s program at Georgia Southwestern State University.
BSC Interim President Stuart Rayfield said, “One of the greatest needs in southwest Georgia are bachelor degrees from an education perspective. These articulation agreements, this one in particular, will really open up the door to bachelor degrees for this part of our state.”
BSC student Joshua Lane, said, “Around here, colleges tend to mostly focus on agriculture. BSC give a lot of options for students so they don’t have to focus just one one particular subject.”
Programs offered under the new partnership are Nursing, Computer Information Systems, or Business Administration (with a major in Marketing, Management, Accounting or Human Resource Management).
Students like Lane also appreciate the fact the courses are online. Therefore, students can stay in Bainbridge if they chose, instead of going nearly two hours away to GSW in Americus, Georgia.
Lane said, “It’s close to home and it’s not spread out. So, you don’t have to drive to get to different buildings. You can just walk and I get to go to school with a lot of my friends.”
Rayfield said, “We are a pipeline that can start at the G.E.D. and move all the way to the bachelor’s level. That makes us a unique institution. We’re actually the only institution in the university system who awards all those different types of degrees.”
