Bainbridge State College’s intramural billiards, basketball and table tennis teams successfully competed against other college teams from throughout the Southeast.
Bainbridge residents Angel Galvan came in second and Tom Jones placed third in the Association of College Unions International Southeast Sectional Recreation Tournament at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Ga., recently. Other Bainbridge State students participating were Otis Brown of Thomasville, Steven Crowell from Bainbridge and Keith Lewis from Camilla.
Brandon Cox and Chris Gabenski, both from Cairo, represented Bainbridge State in the table tennis tournament.
The intramural basketball team, called the BSC Shooters, traveled to the University of Georgia in Athens to compete in the National Intramural-Recreation Sports Association tournament that ended with Bainbridge State earning a 2-2 record, defeating the University of North Carolina Greensboro Spartans and the UGA-Cherry Pickers.
The team members were Shatron Brown, Lorenzo Bush, Trey Close, Steven Crowell, Stanley Fagg, Melzie Johnson, Aaron Sapp, Edward Scott, Adam Taylor, Deion Thomas, Devarrio Thomas and Rodriguez Warren. All of them are from Bainbridge.
Justin Gravlee, the director of the College’ Student Wellness Center and recreation director, said playing in these tournaments expands and increases the opportunity for competition between other schools all over the Southeast.
“The goal is to compete in more of these tournaments and to develop the Bainbridge State sports club team offerings,” Gravlee said.
