American poet Steve Gehrke will be the first of three Georgia Poetry Circuit speakers scheduled to visit Bainbridge State College as part of its inaugural Arts and Lecture Series.
Gehrke will appear on Thursday, Nov. 14. From 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., he will have an extended question and answer session. At 6 p.m., Gehrke will read some of his works. Both sessions are scheduled at the Student Wellness Center’s performance space, and both events are free and open to the public.
Gehrke has published three books, most recently “Michelangelo’s Seizure,” which was selected for the National Poetry Series. His previous books include “The Pyramids of Malpighi,” which won the Philip Levine Prize, and “The Resurrection Machine,” which won the John Ciardi Prize for Poetry.
An assistant professor at the University of Nevada-Reno, Gehrke graduated from Minnesota State University and University of Texas-Austin, where he earned a Masters of Fine Art. He graduated from the University of Missouri with a Ph.D.
